What Did You Push Yourself Away From?

If you are lost in life, one of the questions someone will ask is “what are some things that make you feel in flow?”

This is a worthwhile question. One that we should all sit with from time to time. Keep the answers listed somewhere for safe keeping.

But another powerful question that may have even more intel is:

“what have you hidden away from yourself?”

We all have the thing, or in my case things, that we try to squash inside of us.

It may be an artistic side of us that didn’t fit into our father’s idea of a provider.

Maybe you enjoyed taking care of dolls, but it was insisted that you focus on becoming a lawyer.

It may have been an ability to listen and help others navigate the trials of life. But of course, “there is no money in listening.”

These are all common stories of what we squash down to fit into someone else’s narrative.

It could have been the narrative of the popular girls at school, the teachers who don’t believe in the arts, or something we saw on TV.

Who knows where we found our self-imposed shackles.

But no doubt, finding our own narrative is the most critical part of life.

Ask yourself, “what skills have I thrown in the back of the closet for fear of them getting out?”

Pull them out, dust them off and see if they still fit.
